Free online teleprompter
Paste your script and read it while you record. The text scrolls at your speaking pace, mirrors for a teleprompter glass, and goes full screen.
Free, no sign-up, and it runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded.
Editing one video shouldn't take your whole Sunday. You recorded it in ten minutes. So why does the edit take three hours? Here's what I do instead: I record once, talk naturally, and let the edit find the best take of every line. Try it on your next video, and tell me how long it took.
How to use it
Paste your script, set the pace and the text size, then press Start (or the space bar). Keep your eyes on the line across the screen: each sentence crosses it as you'd say it. Pause with the space bar, change the pace with the arrow keys, and press Home to start again.
Put the window right under or beside your camera lens and make the text large enough to read without leaning in. The closer the text is to the lens, the more it looks like you're talking to the viewer.
Getting the pace right
The pace is in words a second. Most people speak at roughly two to three; start at 2.5 and adjust after a test read. If you have to rush to keep up, slow it down or cut words from the script. Shorter is almost always better.
Reading word for word can sound flat. A good alternative is to put only bullet points in the teleprompter and talk through them naturally; see how to write a video ad script. Then let the edit take the best version of each line.
Questions
- Is this teleprompter free?
- Yes. No sign-up and no watermark, and it runs in your browser: your script never leaves your device.
- Can I mirror the text for a teleprompter glass?
- Yes. Tick Mirror and the text flips horizontally, so it reads correctly in the glass of a teleprompter rig.
- Can I use it on my phone or tablet?
- Yes, in the browser. Full screen works where your browser allows it; on some phones, rotate to landscape for larger text.
